Put simply, who doesn’t? Anything relating to your business, which you post online, is there to raise your company profile right? Why else would you do it? And yet so many businesses are missing a very big trick when it comes to Google My Business.
In addition to your free Google Business Profile, you must also separately create a free Google My Business account for that profile if you want to grow your business and attract new customers. A Google My Business account is the only way you can utilise additional free features that will increase your visibility on Google, improving both your SEO and lead generation.
Sounds good, but what is Google My Business?
Google My Business is a tool that enables you to manage and optimise your Google Business Profile. If you’re not sure what your Google Business Profile is, it’s basically the listing that you see when you search for a local business. It typically provides limited business details.
A Business Profile can exist on its own and, more frustratingly, regardless of whether you created it, you don’t have the ability to manage the information it displays or the reviews it collects.
That is where Google My Business comes in. By creating a Google My Business account, you can access, customise, manage, and enhance your Business Profile on Google.
How Google My Business can help grow your business?
Rather than being what is essentially a business listing, Google My Business will enable you to engage with your local customer and prospects.
You can respond to reviews, answer questions, enable direct messaging, and set up associated alerts. You can even use Google My Business to publish posts to your Business Profile.
As previously stated, a Google Business Profile contains limited information about your business, some of which may not even be entirely accurate or editable. A Google My Business account however will allow you to display opening hours, a link to your website, products and pricing, images and more.
Within your Google My Business account you can also include the areas that you provide your services to. For example, if you have a business within Lincoln but want to reach customers who live in the Lincolnshire area or slight further then you can include Lincolnshire, Sheffield, Nottingham etc. This will increase your rankings within the Google listings. For you to rank in the Google listing the customer doesn’t always need to include their location when searching as Google would already know this and show the results that are near them.
You can also edit your details when required, which has been essential for many businesses who have been impacted by lockdown measures during recent times – from changes to opening hours to varying product offerings, businesses who have utilised Google My Business have been able to communicate to their customers and prospects effectively.
You can use the Google My Business dashboard to gain key insights on your audience and local search performance. Any analytics that tell you how people find you, what terms they are using, what they are looking at when they find you are all extremely invaluable and should never be overlooked. This information is marketing gold dust and can be used to help even more prospects find you, which is what every business wants.
A Google My Business account will also improve your SEO. Just as Google has algorithms for ranking its ads and websites, it also has one for ranking Business Profiles. You can add keywords to your Google My Business profile, amongst many other little tricks to help improve your SEO and get found.
